Aileen Malone of Walk With Destiny is also secretary of Airdrie Astronomical Association. They provide a weekly lecture free to the public, often aimed at children and beginners and they encourage children to learn about astronomy, science, rocketry and spaceflight. Airdrie Public Observatory is one of only four public observatories in the UK. It is owned by North Lanarkshire Council and Airdrie Astronomical Association are the officially appointed curators.
